• What is this? It's a web page to support the Arabian-themed campaign on which I'm working. It's here to solicit ideas from people, and to give back something to the roleplaying community.

• Isn't this just Al-Qadim? Well, firstly I don't have WotC's cash support. Seriously, Al-Qadim always annoyed me. I think that what they did was very cool, but they barely made any attempts to remove a lot of the bad stereotypes so present in D&D worlds.

• So what's different? Lots of things.
  • First, all new races. Elves and dwarves are just so inherently Western, I thought that just making "desert elves" and "desert dwarves" would just be silly.
  • Second, classes are going to be reworked. Say goodbye to bards, barbarians, and monks. Of course, they'll have some replacements.
  • Third, I'm trying to remove the "bad Hollywood" aspect of the Arabian Nights setting. I'm drawing on a lot of Arabian, Jewish, and Persian myths, and all-in-all I'm trying to give this world a darker, more gritty feeling.
  • Fourth, I'm trying to make the Djinn much more interesting. Rather than be elemental outsiders that can grant wishes, they're going to fill a niche much closer to that of dragons in a Western campaign.

• What does Al-Dakan mean? It loosely translates as "The Dark." I'm trying to set this campaign up as a contrast to Al-Qadim, which means "The Eternal."

• What's with all the ankhs everywhere? I thought this was an Arabian campaign. It is. The ankhs are just a part of the mystery...

The following is all released under the Open Gaming License. Technically, each document should have it included with it. Just keep in mind that this is all a work in progress, and I'm a poor graduate student who's doing this not-for-profit. So please, all you WotC Lawyers, don't sue me. No challenge is meant.
